This is Coastalplain Chaffhead

It attracts many butterflies and some bees

It's a short-lived perennial and prefers drier ground

And when in full bloom its flowers are showy.

I am a Common Eastern Bumble Bee,

Sitting on Coastalplain Chaffhead

This plant is a short-lived perennial 

In the winter it is dormant, not dead.
